Role: I assisted in hiring a third-party usability-testing company, Eureka Insights, to bring their expertise to the table — helping us in the testing of our website redesign.
My tasks included assisting with initial goals, screening requirements, test script, prioritizing the areas we thought were our biggest concerns, as well as assisting in screening the actual applicants.
Myself and others in the design team at Live365 monitored the usability testing on site at Fleishman’s in San Francisco (of course wanting to shout through the 2-way mirror at times). We then studied the videos and took the results of the usability testing and created several actionable projects (some to be completed before the release and many following the initial release to continue to improve the site).
In a separate instance, I also later was the host for a video-taped focus group of 35-to-45-year-old Moms to test our new Athena365.com concept and website prototype before it was released to the public. We recruited these candidates from a Yahoo news group with targeted demographics and paid them to join us at the Live365 headquarters in Foster City for a day of discussion, presentation, and playing with early prototypes to get their feedback. These findings also became projects to better Athena365.com before its release a couple of years ago.
